DNA Testing Tips
DNA testing encompasses a number of different types of tests ranging from paternity tests to infidelity testing. However, choosing a DNA testing company is not quite as straight forward as it may be with other service-oriented companies. The following DNA testing tips answers some of the issues that should be considered when thinking about doing a DNA test.
What does accreditation mean?
Accreditation is your guarantee of reliability and accuracy in the results you will be given. At easyDNA we only use ISO accredited laboratories which means that our laboratories are audited by ISO, the International Organization of Standardization. To our clients, this translates into high technical competence and to us as a company an accreditation means that we must work within strict testing parameters which are dictated by ISO. Should we marginally falter, ISO will quickly take away their accreditation and we will lose part of our credibility as a company. Specifically our labs are ISO 17025 accredited but for more about our laboratories and the significance of ISO please visit laboratory accreditation and ISO.
At easyDNA Philippines we test 16 genetic markers on the DNA samples analysed. The more the number of genetic marker tested, the higher the accuracy of results. 16 genetic markers is the optimal number of genetic markers in DNA testing and is the number of markers that ISO imposes upon laboratories with its accreditation. In the case of a paternity test, the alleged father will be included with a percentage of 99.99% if all the genetic markers between the alleged father and child match. The exclusion rate of paternity will be 100%.
Is the DNA test private & confidential?
From the side of easyDNA Philippines we guarantee confidentiality. Your results are treated with total privacy. Once we have delivered the results to you, then it is your prerogative what to do with the results. Results are issued to you by email, and under no circumstance do we give results over the phone unless this has been pre-arranged with the client, no matter how insistent the person on the phone is; this is again a means of guaranteeing privacy. Moreover, all results requested to be sent by post will be received in a plain, rather inconspicuous envelope.
How do I go about the whole process?
Doing a DNA test is a highly emotional choice and the company you choose for this needs to offer you constant technical support explaining every stage of the test to facilitate the whole process. At easyDNA Philippines we understand our clients’ needs as we have more than 8 years in the genetic testing industry. We guide them through all the necessary steps to reduce any emotional distress.
What about the DNA test kit?
The kit we provide has all the necessary swabs needed for the test along with easily-understood instructions. The kit will be sent to you in an unmarked envelope which will be sent out to you within 24 hours of us having received your payment. Our DNA kit collection guide can provide you with more information prior to purchasing or carrying out the test.
